HISTORY
In 2008, POP Montreal re-invisioned the traditional music conference format and launched the Symposium - a noisier-than-ever 5 day celebration of the creative process and hands-on learning. We presented decidedly more artist-driven, grassroots programming while maintaining strong alliances with academic partners McGill's Centre for Intellectual Property Policy (CIPP) and the Future of Music Coalition (FMC).
Its wild success was thanks to 100 speakers and collaborators and a glowing testament to the vibrancy of Montreal's artistic community as well as that of our festival's international audience.
In past years, such esteemed guests as Patti Smith, David Byrne, Ian MacKaye, Clash producer Sandy Pearlman, neuro-scientist Dan Levitan, and Saul Williams have come to share their experiences and expertise on everything from the DIY ethic and social responsibility, to publishing music in the digital era and music cognition.
